Art and architecture

Former cinemas; in its early 20th century heyday, Harringay was home to four cinemas – find out more here and check out some pics here

Alexandra Palace; it’s worth the hilly schlep up from Harringay for the wonderful view alone

Street art; we’ve lost our Banksy (below) but there’s been a profusion of art in the area including pieces by Shepard Fairey, Stewy and Irony.

Turnpike Lane tube station; the Grade II-listed modernist gem was designed by the architect Charles Holden

Green spaces

New River; constructed in the 17th century to bring fresh water into London from Hertfordshire, the waterway flows through Harringay. Why not follow it through Stokie and up to Islington or northwards to Enfield?

Parkland Walk; a hidden urban gem, this 4.5 mile nature reserve follows the path of a disused railway line from Finsbury Park to Highgate and is easily accessible from Harringay

Finsbury Park; the largest green space in Haringey includes a boating lake, cafe, skatepark and playground
